American Institute Of Steel Construction

Like ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is a non-profit technical institute promoting structural steel as a prime construction material. AISC is established in 1921 and located at Chicago, Illinois, USA. In its last 90 years of existence AISC has about 7000 members consisting of architects, engineers, corporations and has developed standards, specifications, codes etc. The missions of AISC are:

. Making the structural Steel the material of Choice.

. Establishing a common goal of steel industry

. Improving the quality of design specification of steel for construction use

Membership and Certification

AISC grants membership to qualified engineers, architects, corporations through application process and authorization. It also grants certification to structural steel fabricator, erector. The certification program includes thorough initial investigation, follow up, and auditing with respect to personnel, knowledge, organization, equipment, experience, capability, procedures, and delivery of quality product by auditing and quality management company.

Database of Certified Companies and Qualified Personnel

AISC has a database of detail information of certified fabricators, erectors, and qualified engineers, designers, architects, bridge, highway and highway metal component manufacturers with respect to structural steel. The members of AISC have access to the database.

AISC Standards

AISC produces, maintains many structural steel related standards. The standards are available in AISC bookstore.  Some examples of standards are listed below:
